Prishtine. Within the framework of the TEMPUS project: “Increasing the Financial Autonomy and accountability at public Higher education institutions in Kosova”, a roundtable discussion was organized on November 11 – 13, 2014 at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Kosova. The aim of this meeting was to discuss the challenges and prospects of financing public higher education in Kosovo.
Participants were welcomed by Ms. Sophie Beaumont – European Union Office of Kosovo, Prof. Dr. Arthur Mettinger – FH Camus Wien (grant-holder) and Ms. Drita Kadriu – Head of Higher Education Department, MESTK.
On the first day of the roundtable, there were presentations on how to finance higher education (HE) in Kosovo, the financial management of public institutions of higher education and experiences of partners from Europe. Furthermore, the first day also concluded a discussion on the challenges and prospects of financing higher education in Kosovo.
On the second and third day of the roundtable, participants worked on a strategic document that contained the principles, objectives and indicators for the creation of a more advanced system of financing public higher education in Kosovo.
In this event discussion topics were:
- Financial management of Higher Education Institutions of Kosova.
- Financial Autonomy and Accountability of public university in Austria.
- The German model(s) of allocating state money to Higher Education Institutions.
- Financial Management of HEIs – Case study of the University of Alicante.
- Challenges and perspectives of financing the higher education system of Kosova.
Participants in this roundtable were representatives from partner institutions Wus Kosova, MESTK, KAA, University of Alicante, University of Saarland, FH Campus Wien, University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina”, University of Peja “Haxhi Zeka” and University of Prizren “Ukshin Hoti”. Also, representatives from other institutions were present including EU Office of Kosovo, World Learning, Ecorys, USAID – Kosovo, K – CIRT, Wus Austria and Ministry of Finance of Kosovo.
The roundtable had media coverage as well. Media that covered this event included TV Stations (RTK2), daily newspapers (Epoka e Re), Web Portals (KosovaPress, Infodirekt.Tv, kallxo.com, koha.net, kosova.info, RTV 21, InfoGlobi.tv). Also, before the meeting started, representatives from Wus Kosova, FH Campus Wien and MESTK were guests at the morning program on November 11, 2014 on the national television, RTK1.
